Under the deal, company will have access to Airbnb's stay options across the world
In a bid to widen its offerings for the outbound travellers from India, Thomas Cook (India) has inked a partnership with accommodation website Airbnb to offer unique stay experiences at various price points.Airbnb is a website for people to list, find, and rent lodging, with the platform featuring over two million properties around the world. Under the partnership, Thomas Cook will have access to Airbnb's stay options which include apartments, private rooms, castles, boats, manors, tree houses and private islands across the world.
“A year ago, we focused on how to get into the hotel space, not as a provider but to scale up our offerings in this segment. Our tie-up with Oyo Rooms last year was the first step we took to scale up our offerings in India. With this tieup with Airbnb, we are targeting Indian outbound travellers, many of whom no longer look for standard accommodation but prefer non-stan dard stays,“ Thomas Cook (India) chairman Madhavan Menon told ET.
The travel company aims to target families, ad hoc group of friends and business-cum-leisure travellers through this partnership. According to an internal research conducted by the company , 25% of the individual traveller segment looks to explore local stays and engage deeper with local culture and people. Menon said the partnership will also enhance the travel firm's brick and mortar business. Like its partnerships with hotels and airlines, Thomas Cook (India) earns a commission on each booking that it generates for Airbnb. The partnership is currently applicable to Airbnb properties outside India.
As online travel companies gobble up market share, offline players are looking to diversify and gain business with new service offerings.Several of them are reworking business strategies to follow a `Click & Brick' model, getting business from both offline and online presence. Backed by billionaire investor Prem Watsa's Fairfax Financial Holdings, Thomas Cook (India) is an integrated travel and travel-related financial services company offering services that include foreign exchange, corporate travel, MICE (meetings, incentive, conference, exhibition), leisure travel, insurance, visa and passport services and e-business.
